| Firefox Error Message "The connection has timed out" | | Question | | All I see is an error message "The connection has timed out"? I can't get to my Office Timesheets Login Page from any computer, except for the web server. Why? | Answer | The reason for this error message is because there has not been an exception created for TCP port 80 in Windows Firewall. Please contact your Network Administrator before proceeding with the following instructions as your network environment may not allow for the configurations below.
To manually allow incoming traffic on TCP port 80 for an XP Pro SP2 machine running as a web server, open "Windows Firewall" by going to "Start", "Run", and type in "firewall.cpl". Select the "Exceptions" tab and click the "Add Port" button. Then type "http" without quotes as the descriptive name for the new exception. Specify the "Port number" by typing in 80. Select "OK" and your new exception is displayed in the firewall exceptions list. Click "OK" to close the Windows Firewall dialog box. Restart the web server in order for Windows to activate the settings.
If some users are able to view the Office Timesheets Login Page and others cannot this is a direct result of not having other user's IP addresses within the "Custom List" Scope. The way to resolve this issue is to add those user's IP Address/Subnet mask to the Custom List. To manually configure this open "Windows Firewall" by going to "Start", "Run", and type in "firewall.cpl". Select the "Exceptions" tab and double click on "http". Click on the "Change scope..." button and choose the "Custom list:" option. Enter in the user's IP Address/Subnet mask and hit "OK". Finally click "OK" to close the Windows Firewall dialog box. Restart the web server in order for Windows to activate the settings. | Related articles | | Back to Search Results |
